'I he County Spring .Meeting was held in line weather. The course was in excellent condition, and there was large attendance, including more from Christchurch than for some time. Til tote took 1110,075}, compared with 1118,210 last year, when the races were held at Eiccarton, and £9,092 at the winter meeting here.

Longbeach Hack.—Money Peer L, Armchair 2, Moratorium 3. Won by neck. Time 1.15 4-5.

Selina Trot.—Lady Matclilight Jean McElywn 2, Bingen Patch 3. "Won by two lengths. Time 3.34 3-5. Trial Plate.—Scoff 1, Sky Quest 2, M iss Trillion 3. Won by a length. Time 1.10 jj-5. The Stewards fined B. Lynsky £1 for taking Expedient into the Selma Trot with faulty gear. Ashburton Handicap.—Chickwheat 1, Opliir 2, Footfall 3. Won by two and a-half lengths. Time 1.7 1-5. An inquiry was held into the alleged knocking of Footfall 1 by Margaret Birnev near the entrance to the straight, but the stewards decided not to take action. Fairfield Hack.—Satrap 1, Ark Royal 2, Wreath of Myrtle 3. Won by length. Time 1.42 1-5. Enkaia Handicap.—Epigram 1, Sungleam 2, Harvest Child 3. Won by two lengths. Time 2.54 1-5. The Avondale Jockey Club’s Spring meeting opened at, Ellerslie to-day. The course was very heavy, alter heavy rain, which continued to midday. Besides those mentioned below, the following New Zealanders participated: Weninan and Arikiwai, but not one secured even a place.
