SEDDON SHIELD» (By Telegraph—Per Press Association. WESTPORT, Sept, 22. The local delegates to the Seddon Shield Conference held at Westport on Saturday fail to understand the attitude taken up by the Nelson Rugby Union in regard to the charges adopted at the conference. None of the four unions which approved of the charges minimum of 2s gents, Is Gd ladies, and Is extra grandstand or other seating accommodation, wish to see matches played at Nelson. All are very keen for their respective Rugby representatives to win fhe Shield, and transfer! both Shield and matches to their respective centres. At present, however, Nelson has the best team and holds the Shield, so matches have to W pi'ayed in the sometimes sunny city. The Nelson appeal to the New Zealand Rugby Union is regarded as childish and petty, as. besides being enthusiastic followers of the game, the delegates are nearly all business men, and if they find the charges not working satisfactorily—all present evidence is to the contrary and indicates the creating of a keen interest and being a. big draw to the Centre holding the Shield—they will naturally alter the charges to suit. As a matter of fact, one of the rui'es adopted at the conference provider! for delegates to meet at Wellington next year on the morning of the annual meeting of the X.Z.R.U. This is before any further Seddon Shield matches will be played.
