COMMERCIAL ITEMS.
ADOINCTON STOCK SALES CHRISTCHURCH, Sept. 22. Tat Cattle, fat sheep and store sheep were all yarded in small numbers. The ' sale of fat cattle was hardly so keen ‘ as last week’s market, and while best i quality beef maintained late rates, ■ there was an easing in the price of me- | dium and inferior stuff. The sale of | fat sheep was very irregular, but it j was a bettor market than the previous ! one by a .good deal, and, on an averj age, prices improved by 2s to 2s Cd I a head. Store sheep prices were inclined to be below late rates, though i good lines of ewe hoggets and ewes and I lambs sold well. The few spring lambs I forward met with a keen demand, and I any well-grown sorts brought high ! money. Store cattle met with a good demand, and there was a considerable improvement in the price of dairy cattle. Venters, which were yarded in smaller numbers than last week, met with a brisk sale. Baconers were firmer than last week, but porkers wore cheaper. There was active competition for store pigs, though at prices slightly below last week’s values. Fat cattle—Prices a hundred pounds were: Best beef to 495, prime mediumweight 43s Cd to 46s Cd. medium quality 41s to 435, heavy-weight 37s to 395, ordinary cow beef 35s to 37s Cd and inferior down to 27s Cd. Values were: Extra prime heavy steers to £2l 17s I Cd. prime heavy steers £l7 10s to £l9 10s, medium-weight steers £l4 10s to £l7. light steers £lO 10s to £l4, extra prime heifers £ls fo £l7 2.s Cd, prime heifers £l2 15s to £l4 15s, medium heifers £lO 10s to £l2 10s, light heifers £8 to £lO ss, extra prime cows to £l6 12s Cd, prime cows £l2 10s to £l4 15s, medium cows £lO to £l4 15s, medium cows £lO to £l2 ss. light cows £8 ros to £9 15s. aged cows £0 15s to C 7 15s. Store cattle—The entry of store cattle was made up mainly of cows and bulls, which met with a good demand. Best, caws £l7 15s to £5 ss, medium cows £2 to £3 10s, old cows 20; to 355, bulls £3 10s to £7. Dairy cattle—There was a small entry of dairy cattle, only 45 head being yarded. Values were: Best second, third and fourth culvers, £8 to £ll. medium sorts £5 10s in £7 10s, inferior sorts £4 to £5 ss. springing heifers £4 10s to £9. old cows in pr fit £2 10s to £4. Vealcrs—A much smaller entry and the quality generally was very indifferent. There was a brisk sale with a shade of improvement for all (lassos. Values were: Twelve to eighteen months sorts to £9, good vealcrs £5 10s to £0 15s, medium vealcrs £3 to £5. others 10s to 17s Cd. small and inferior calves 5s to 9s. Fat sheep—There was again a small entry of fat sheep and the sale was an irregular one. Values were: Extra prime wethers to 54s Id. prime wethers 45s Cd to 49s Cd, medium wethers 38s to 455, light wethers 30s to 375, extra prime ewes 42s to 45s lOd. prime ewes ,37s to 41s, medium ewes 31s to 355. light owes 25s to 30s, prime hoggets 38s to 47s 7d, ordinary hoggets 3?s to 375. light hoggets 25s to 30s.
Spring lambs—Thirty-five spring laml)S wore wnned. Tlio demand was good, and all tile well-grown la mbs wore snapped lip readily at high prices. Quality varied a good deal, and so did the values, which ranged from 20s lid to -J-3s 7d.
Store .sheep—The entry was a small one, comprising barely three races. 'Wethers and ewes and lambs formed the hulk of the entry. Wethers did not meet with the animated sale of last w£ek, being easier by Is to Is (Id a bead. . The best of the ewe hoggets sold well, making; up to 33s -Id, equal to last week.
Pigs—The yarding of fat pigs was larger than last week. Baconcrs were firmer than last week, hut porkers were easier. Values were: Choppers £3 10s to £7 8s €d, light hnrollers £3 5s to £3 15s, heavy haconers £4 5s to £4 12s fid, average price per lb. 5.1 d to Old, light porkers 43s to 50s, heavy porkers 52s to 02s, average price per lb. 7.jd to BJd. There was a large entry of store pigs, and a good attendance of buyers. 'I he sale opened a little easier than last week, and this level was maintained throughout, bidding being brisk for all classes. Values wore:—Small weaners 15s to 17s od. good weaners 18s to 21s fid, extra good weaners to 255, slips 14s to 18s, larger slips 19s to 225, medium stores 23s to 28s, large stores 34s to 39 fid.
HATHHARI STOCK SALE
At the above yards on Thursday a Tier noon Messrs W. Jeffries and Co hei’d their spring store sale, when an entry of 20 fat sheep, 51 store hoggets and 84 head of cattle were submitted to a good attendance of buyers. The cattle section was represented by mostly poor conditioned springing cows and culls from the larger herds for which there was little competition, and several were passed. No quotable lines of store cattle wore penned and tho few odd lots offered sold readily. Tho following sales wore made:—For M . H. Chinn, 20 fat sheep at 295. For IT. Hondo, 51 store hoggets at 13s. Tor ,T. J. Mclntosh 14 two-year licifers at £3 10s-, 7 mixed steers at £3 ss, 2 fat bullocks at £9 10s. For F. Wood- j ham 1 eighteen-months lieifer at £2 15s, one ditto at £3. one steer at £ I 15s, one dry cow at £5 10s. For Los. Died rich, 1 cow at £6 Ls.s, 2 do at £7 ss, 1 heifer at £3 10s, 1 cow at £6 17s fid. For H. Kendo 1 cow at £5 10s. Tor Y\ . IJ. Chinn, 2 cows at £7 ss, 2 do at £7, 1 do at £6 17s fid. For Frank Aritcliell 1 steer at £5 10s, 1 row at £3 17s fid. 1 do. at £1 7s fid. Tor Airs St. George 1 springer cow at £5 ss. two do at £3 15s, three do at £5 13s fid. t do at £4.
