The presence of the Hon McLeod in the Raglan live-election suggests that the Government finds it necessary to put forward its best talent in the fight. It is quite appropriate that the Minister of Lands should be on the spot, seeing that most of the candidates, and particularly the Liberal candidate, is opposing the land policy of the Government. Mr McLeod has been bewailing the want of Crown Lands for further settlement operation, but he has said nothing about aggregated holdings which could be appropriated under the Lands for Settlement Act. to assist not only in satisfying any earth hunger, but also in endeavouring to meet the unemployed problem in the most practical way passible, by turning at least a section of the vast armv into potential producers on suitable areas of land. It has remained for Mr Parker, the Liberal candidate, to expound on flie subject of land settler

incut, and with Mr McLeod at the seat of political warfare lie can reply to the strictures which are being passed on the Reform land policy (or the lack of ;t affecting land settlement. The ltaglan contest should certainly brighten u]> the political activities of all the parties, and no doubt other guns will he hrouidit to hear before the deciding day of the election in the evident des'ire to enlighten the electors on the position of New Zealand.
