1 ALL BLACK TRIALS. J (By Telegraph—Per Press Association. WANGANUI, Sept. 21. In ideal conditions, the third All Black trial match was played to-day. riio teams comprised players from Taranaki, Wanganui, Wellington, and Manawhenua. An exposition above the average resulted. However, it was noticeable that continuity in Wanganui’s rearguard was not maintained as in tiie case of Wellington, where Kilby, Johnson, Xicholls, South and Rushbrook formed the line. Playing for Wellington almost right throughout tiie season, these live possessed a knowledge of each other's play, which proved tiie winning factor. What Wanganui lost in hack play the vanguard more than retrieved. Headed by Ward, Leahy, Johnson and Walters, the pack shouldered into the tight play with vigour, and in tiie first spell kept Wellington defending solidly, and in the dying stages, they were playing with a vim every bit the equal of their opening efforts. Reviewing the game and the individual players, it must be said that few impressed as being of All Black class. Malcolm undoubtedly was the best full back seen in action (four were tried), and Darby was next, but neither displayed attributes above a good provincial standard. Tiie game resulted Wellington 10: Wanganui 9.
AUCKLAND PLAYERS. AUCKLAND, Sept. 21. in response to a request for information from the Auckland Rugby Union, A. R. Lomas, the 1925 All Black hooker, lias notified that lie will not be available for selection for the New Zealand team to tour South Africa. It is understood that increasing cost of such tours to players individually has influenced his decision. Lomas, who is a member of tiie City Club, has been playing well this season.
