MILITARY BALL
AN OUTSTANDING SUCCESS
There wa.-. a capacity attendance at I the Soldiers’ Hall last evening l'ur the ) annual .Military Ball now regarded as one ol the chief feature events of the season. A very large number of visitors wero present, and added to these was the usual liberal local patronage, which foregathers on such an occasion. The hull was gaily decorated in red, white and blue streamers, and with a wealth ol flags. The Union Jack held a prominent place, as also did the Regimental colours, including the old colors of the local corps, while flags of the Allies were also conspicuous. I lie scene was a bright one, heightened as it was hy the fracking of the ladies. Ail night long the scene was a very animated one. Excellent music was •supplied by Ross’ Orchestra ol five instruments. and encores were the order of the evening. The floor had been prepared specially for file occasion, a'nd in its excellent condition and with the bright music provided, lovers of the light fantastic revelled to their hearts’ content. The supper dances were provided by the Black Hand orchestra. The High Master presided at the niano, and v.as assisted by three nyphytes. who with weird am! wonderful instruments provided jazz strains which set the whole concourse in motion. All the popular airs of the ballroom wore brought- into requisition, and flic medley provided was a time of real revelling for the merry makers. The duties of M.O. were canned out very ahl.v by Lieut. Bleach, assisted by Lieut. Ferguson, while a Committee working under the direction of Lieut. Hutchison and torn. Beil (the hardworking secretaries) attended most efficiently to all requirements. The supper arrangements were in the hands of Mesdames Parkin'll, Morgan. T. Stuart. Paterson, Rn"'e and Appleton, and were, complete in every detail. It was not a light task to carry through, hut the onerous duties were discharged in such a way as to please and gratify all patrons. The whole function was quite an outstanding success, and ranks as one of the best halls of the season. The novelty dances introduced created special interest, and several prizes wero awarded to the winners of the competitions. The dancing continued far into the might, the attendance being maintained at capacity Strength till quite a lafe hour. To-night the juveniles will he catered for and a good time will lie provided for ail. young and old alike, to wind up the festive event.
