REFORM APPOINTMENT

- 11: HARRIS HURT. (Special cor respond en t.). WELLINGTON, Sept. |(). More than passing interest has been aroused in Parliamentary circles by the fact that Air 11 a iris (Waitemata) has been dropped as chairman of the Industries and Commerce Committee, and it is understood that the matter is to he raised in the House on the first opporunity. Several members have intimated that they intend to speak, and Hr Harris himself will have something pointed to say.

It is known that Mr Harris had an assurance from the Prime Minister this session that the Government contemplated no change in the chairmanship, and when the committee was appointed the fact that Hr Hands was included was taken as an indication that lie would continue to he chairman.

Discussing the matter this morning Hr Harris said that the whole thing was too contemptible for words. It would never have happened, he said, had a full committee been present lastweek when the first meeting of the session was held. However, there were only six in attendance.

“I place all the blame on the Hon A. D. Al’Leod,” said Air Harris. “It was a stab in the back with a poisoned dagger, politically speaking. It would to an insult to all other members of the committee to imagine that anv other one could he so small.”

A lively interlude is expected when the matter is discussed in the House.
