hailstone bird havoc. GENEVA, 'Aug. 8. Storms of extraordinary violence continue to sweep over Switzerland, doing great damage to property and crops. In the canton of Lucerne 3,000 houses have suffered. LaTge hailstones made a hecatomb of birds and animals. In one commune alone the scholars of a class collected 8 hares, 6 pigeons, 24 hens, 15 moles, 58 starlings, 13 crows, 7 thrushes, 5 sparrows, 17 chaffinches, 31 swallows, 5 magpies, and a number of squirrels, all jcilled by hajlstones.
