RACING.

ROSEHILL RACES. (By Telegraph—Per Press Association.) SYDNEY, Sept. 18. Tho Rosehill Spring Meeting opened yesterday in cold, wintry weather, interspersed with showers, but the track was in fairly good condition. The New Zealand contingent were successful in only one race, although scoring places. In the Hurdle Race, Asleep, which was greatly fancied was only beaten in the last few strides. Limerick maintained his reputation and in a great finish in the Hill Stakes earned an ovation from the spectators when he came away and won from Gothic. Amounis also made a great run, but could not get on terms with the leaders. Limerick was not at all extended and showed he could have won without the slightest effort. His form to-day greatly impressed the spectators and advanced him considerably in popular favour for the spring meeting. Results : Rosehill Hurdles.—Gold Thread 1, Asleep 2, Amorient 3. Won by half a head. Time 3.42. Camellia Stakes.—Yaals 1, Aorangi 2, Calmest 3. Won by a neck. Time 1.27. Rosehill Guineas.—Winalot 1, Chromium 2, Sion 3. Won by a short head. Time 1.551. Rosehill Cup.—Pantheon 1, Bacchus 2, Horton Gag 3. Won by a neck. Time 2.20*. Hill Stakes.—Limerick 1, Gothic 2, Amounis 3. Won by two lengths. Time 1.29. SYDNEY, Sept. 18. The Sydney “ Sun ” newspaper commenting on Limerick’s win yesterday says:—“He made his titi'e clear to super class as a racehorse and nothing more brilliant or decisive than his victory in the Hill Stakes could ho imagined. It looks as though nothing but extra, distance rather than weight will defeat him in tho Metropolitan Handicap.
