AOOIHCTON STOCIC SAULS. CHRISTCHURCH, Sept. 15. Entries were slightly below the average at the weekly market yesterday. As a result fat cattle again met with a keen sale, there being an advance tin the good values ruling last we*Ac. A good 25 per cent of tbe beef came from outside the province, 80-odd head being from the North Island. One consignment that arrived during tho sale bore evidence ol having a rather hard trip. I'at sheep sold very irregularly, but on an average there was litt/e change from last week. Ihe quality of the store sheep entry was not up to that of last week, and this fact considered, the sale for dry sheep was a good one. though the backward sorts sold scarcely so well. The bulk of tlie bacon pigs were over-weight. and sold at lower prices. The attendance of farmers at the sale was large. Fat Cattle. —-The sale was the best of the year, and there was a fair quantity of the best licef making in the earlier stages not far short of 50s per 4001 b, medium quality heel' 45s per lOOfb. In some cases this price was more than reached. The average values apart from the best quality, were: Primo medium-weight steor and heifer beef 45s to 48s pier 1001 b, medium quality beef 42s to 44s Gd, heavy heel 39s to 425, ordinary cow beef 38s to 40s, and inferior from 30s. to 355. Values were as under: —Extra prime bullocks to £2l 17s Gd; prime heavyweight steers £l7 10s to £2O. mediumweight steers £ls to £l7, light steers £ll to £l4 10s; extra prime heifers to £lB 2s Gd, prime heifers £l3 10s to £ls 10s, medium heifers £ll to £l3, light heifers £8 to £lO 10s; extra prime cows to £lB 7s Gd, prime cows £l3 5s to £ls ss, medium cows £lO IDs to £l3, light cows £9 to £lO ss, aged cows £7 to £8 15s. Vealers.—Values were :—Twelve and 18-months-old sorts to £8 2s Gd, good vealers £5 os to I'G 10s, medium veuV- • ers £3 to £4 los, others 10 s to £2 ss, ' small and inferior calves ■from 4s upwards. j Store Cattle.—There was a medium ' entry of store cattle, consisting mainly of old cows. Values were:—Best cows j £3 las to £5 ss, medium cows £2 to 1 £3 10s, old cows 20s to 355; bulls £8 ’ 5s to £0 12s Gd; good three-year-old steers to £ll 2s Gd, medium three-year-old steers to £B, two-year-old Shorthorn steers to £7 los, two-yenr-J old heifers £2 15s to £3 los. ! Dairy ‘Cattle.—The entry of dairy 5 cattle totalled 86 head. Most ol the : cows and heifers were of poor quni'ity. Buyers wore not -Keen and prices flropi pod 'by 30s to £2 a head on late rates. Values wore:—Best second, third, ; and fourth calvers £6 to £8; medium ; sorts £4 10s to £5 los, inferior sorts c'2 10s to £4; host heifers £5 to £7, i others £3 to £4 15s, old cows in profit £1 to £3. Spring Lambs. —Thirty-eight spring lambs were penned. They met with ■ active competition from butchers, the well-grown sorts especially selling rcad- •' ily. Two from the Papa run Prison ' Farm made 46s Id and two made 45s ' Id. I Fat Sheep.—Values were:—Extra primo wethers 49s to 53s Id, primo wethers 43s to 475, medium wethers 3Gs to 425, light wethers 335.t0 35s Gd, 1 extra prime ewes 39s to 45s lOd, mod- | ium owes 29s to 345, light ewes 2os Gd to 29s Gd; prime hoggets 34s to 44s \ lOd, medium hoggets 29s to 335. j Store Sheep—Ewes and lambs met a good demand, one pen of good class aged half-bred ewes and 100 per cent of fairly wed-grown lambs making 18s. ■. Several lots of wethers made over 335. Hoggets sold fairly well, but generally the quality was not attractive. Only a. few pens were passed at auction. I Values were as follows: —Aged owes 15s to 17s Gd, failing-mouthed halfbred owes 28s 3d, aged ewes and lambs 13s Gd to 18s, low-conditioned soundmouthed ewes 24s 3d, two and fourtoothed halfbrcd wethers 31s to 33s 3d. four and six-toothed halfbrcd wethers 80s to 335, inferior four and six-toothed half-bred wethers 2Gs 9d to 28s Gd, crossbred wether hoggets, 19s 10(1 to 20s 10d, halfbred wether hoggets 19s lOd to 20s lOd, crossbred ewe hoggets 25s 4d to 26s 4d. Fat Pigs.—The entry of porkers was small, and a heavy proportion ol tho baconers were too heavy. The 1 actor

class was not wanted, and tho section mot with a dull sale. Porkers, on tho other hand, sold under keen competi -1 tion. The whole of the fat entry came from local districts. Values were:— Choppers £3 to £5 18s 6(1, light bacononers £3 to £3 7s, heavy bnconers £3 15s to £4 4s 6d; average price per lb, 4kl to 6ld. Porkers 43s to 535, heavy j porkers 57s to 625; average price per lb. to 9d. I Store Pigs.—There was a very large [ yarding of store pigs, with a fair attendance of buyers. Prices throughout were bellow late rates, and in the closing stages there was a sharp drop in values. Values were:—Weaners 15s to 20s, slips 18s to 245, medium stores 26s to 325, large -stores 34s to 425, sows in pigs to £4 15s.
