GREAT CIRCUS PICTURE, FRIDAY

In “Spangles,” the Universal-Jewel production coming to the Princess Theatre on Friday you will get an entirely new view of the people of the circus who are known as “freaks,” for you will see their life, their hopes, loves and ambitions as they appear alter the “big. top” is struck and the crowd is gone. And you may be surprised to learn that their hearts are very much like our own. Because Nature has, in an unguarded moment, endowed a girl with a luxuriant dark beard, is no reason that her heart is not that of a woman; because a man grows only to a. stature of three feet, six inches, it isn’t fair to assume that all the manly qualities and longings are not resident in his small bosom. Or, take the case of a. young girl who weighs 600 pounds, but never doubt that she wishes to he petted and “babied” as much as any of her sylphliko sisters. Of course, the bearded lady in “Spangles” is played by a

very attractive young actress, Grace Gordon, and the heard is false, but in the case of the other freaks they are “all wool and a yard wide.” The dwarf is Charlie Becker, member of a famous family of German dwarfs who came to this country three years ago; the -fat woman is Nellie B. Lane, the giant is “Tiny” 'Ward, and the contortionist is Paul Howard, both well Known to circus and vaudeville audiences. Surrounding these are a full complement of freaks, clowns, aerialists. animals and everything that goes to make up a “greatest show on earth.” A big supporting programme will also bo shown, including a Topical, Comedy and “The Radio Detective” (serial).
