KOKATHAI 11, EXCELSIOR B. 6. This replay game was/ played on Cass Square on Saturday afternoon and resulted in a win for Kokntalii by 11 points (3 tries, one being converted) to 5 points (a converted try). Play in the first half was entirely in favour of Kokntalii, and they bad many opportunities of scoring that just missed. Their backs opened out the play and the forwards followed up well. Only mistakes in handling and hard tackling kept down the score. It was just on half-time when B. Morel broke through the defence and scored under the (posts, the same player converting s—o.

In the second half the play was still in favour of Kokatahi hut Excelsiors attacked briefly at times. From one loose rush the ball was kicked from the line to the front of the posts and Nestor getting possession went over to score an easy try that King converted. 5—5. Soon after from a Kokatahi rush the ball went to J. Marshall who picked up smartly and crossed the line, close to the posts, but an easy kick failed. A fur-' ther score came a- few moments after. Wool house crossing near the corner after a neat run. Morel again failed to enhance and after up and down play that was fairly even, time was called with Kokatahi victors by 11 to 5. and they showed more superiority than the scores would indicate. Air Kearns was referee.

COAST DEFEAT BULLER. BY 23 POINTS TO 12. The Rundle Cup contest between West Coast and Buller which took place on Victoria Park on Saturday, resulted in a win for the Coast by 23 points to 12. The Coast were tho heavier side, and this factor to some extent enabled them to secure the substantial margin of points. The home team 'displayed poor combination in passing, and relied almost entirely on dribbling, and individual pi'ay when taking the offensive. Buller made superior concerted efforts, but their forwards were not so speedy, and they were weaker in baek play. Tho visitors had the best of the first spell which ended with a score of 12 points to 5, in their favour. They were -aided to some extent by a strong breeze which in the second spell however favoured their opponents to a similar degree. McGulk', Thornton and Caldwell scored tries for Buller, none I icing converted ; and Griffiths succeeded with a free kick. Thornton, Kearns, Hawes and Caldwell were perhaps the best of the visitors, though on the whole it would be hard to discriminate. Fell, Freitas. King and AT. Jamieson (2) scored tries for Coast, Bell and Jenkins converting one each. Jenkins also accounted for a fine drop kick. Jenkins, Freitas, iDovanoy were all responsible tor good individual play. The Jamieson brothers displayed their usual good form, and Pfalilert, CouTton and Fell also gave a good account of themselves.

Playing for the greater part of the match in drenching rain on the ground which was a puddle, Taranaki defeated Wairarapa at Pukeliura Park today by 12 points to 8. -Football' in the ordinary sense of the word was out of the question, and tho play developed into a mud scramble, characterised by frequent glissading and showers of spray, in which a mediumsized crowd found considerable amusement. WAIKATO V. THAMES VALLEY. HAMILTON, Sept. 10. In a Rugby rep. game at Tenroha, Waikato beat Thames Valley by 17 points to 3. Waikato are unbeaten this season. otago v. Auckland. AUCKLAND, Sept. 10. The Auckland Rugby reps, •maintained their undefeated record for the season to-day by defeating Otago on a heavy ground by 11 to 9. It was a great forward struggle, both sides being well matched. Rain fell frequently and the ground was very muchly.

The scorers for Auckland were Hook, Keene and Cathcart, one try being converted by Rerridge. For Otago, tries were scored by Mitchell, Stewart and Webb.

SEDDON SHIELD. NELSON, Sept. 10. In dull, but fine weather, before an attendance of 3000, Nei’son successfully defended the Seddon Shield against tlie ’Motueka-Golden Rays reps, to-day., A hard, closely contested game resulted in the issue being in doubt until the second half. At half time the scores were: Nelson G, Motueka-Golden Ray 5.

Nelson added 10 more points in the second ’half, and the game ended in a dull manner-with the scores: Nelson 10, Golden Bay 5. HAWKE’S fit AY V. POVERTY BAY. GISBORNE, Sept. 10. Poverty Bay met Hawke’s Bay this alternoon and a brilliant exhibition of Rugby I'ontbali' resulted in a draw, eleven points each. Thomas and Caul ton scored for Poverty Bay and Caulton converted one try and kicked c penalty goal. For Hawke’s Bay, Wilson and Corkill scored tries, Grenside converting one and kicking a penalty goal.

WELLINGTON V. CANTERBURY. WELLINGTON, Sept. 11. Wellington yesterday defeated Canterbury by 20 .points to 17, after a brilliant exhibition. J. Shearer (2), South, Llushbrook, and Emerson scored for Wellington. Nicholls converted one try and kicked a penalty goal. Pickering and Gray scored for Canterbury. Dailey converted one try and Oarleton kicked three penalty goals.
