ADDINGTON STOCK SALES.

Tlieru wn« a very small entry of fat cattle at the metropolitan weekly market at Arlington yesterday. It totalled only 300 head, the smallest yarding for a long time. As a result of tne short entry a sharp rise in prices was recorded, and, from the point of view of the vendors, the sale was thoroughly satisfactory. Fat sheep, on the other hand, showed another decline in price, amounting from Is (kl to 2s a head on all hatchers’ sheep. Lighter sheep, suitable for grazing or for carrying over until shearing made prices practically equal to late rates. The sale of store sheep was quite a
bright one, most lots selling with more freedom than has boon the case at redent markets. Store cattle suitable for grazing also sold well, hut prices fop dairy attlo were easier than last week, though, in a measure the slacker demand as due to the poor quality of the lmlk of the stuff offered. The entry of vealers was larger than has been the ease for several weeks, hut the suply of calves fit for butchers’ purposes was not equal to requirements, and this class sold firmly at late rates and improved as it progressed. There was a keen demand for store pi-go, which sold as well as last week’s.
Fat cattle—Best cows and heifers were tip by £2 to £2 10s it head and steers by £2. In some eases heifers were better titan last week by £3 a bead, but this was above the average extent of toe rise. In the final stages of the. sale there was an easing by .about 10s to "20s a. bead, but, taking the market as a whole it was a really good one front the point of view of vendors. It was quite flic best sale of 1 the year. Prices a 1001 b. were: Best heifer beef to IPs, good steers and medium to good heifers 43s 6d to 475, medium steers 40s to 435, heavy weight beef and ordinary cow 36s 6d to 30s 6d, and inferior down to 30s. Values were: Show bullocks £25 7s 6d, extra heavy prime steers £2O to £23. prime heavy steers £l7 10s io £l9 15s. medium steers £l4 to £l6. light steers £lO 10s to £l3 10s, extra prime heifers to £ls 17s 6d, prime heifers £l3 to £ls 10s. medium heifers £lO to £l2 | 10s, light- heifers £7 10s to £9 15s, extra prime cows to £l7 2s Gd. prime cows £l3 to £ls 10s, medium cows £9 ]os to £l2 10s, light cows £7 to £9. aged cows £5 to £6 10s. Store cattle—All classes of store cattle fit for crazing sold well at an advance on bite rates. Spring lambs—Eight spring lamina were penned and they met with keen competition, making as high as 475. Store sheep—Half-bred ewe hoggets 29s fid to 31s 4d, cull and inferior halfbred ewe hoggets 24s to 26s 3d, crossbred ewe hoggets 33s 9d, cross-bred "ether hoggets 2ls to 22s ]od, inferior cross-bred wctlicr hoggets 17s lOd to 18s lOd, forward four and six-tooth half-bred wethers 33s fid to 3Gs 4d, four and six-tooth half bred wethers 28s to 31s, inferior four and six-tooth half-bred wethers 2fis to 275. soundmouthed. cross-bred owes and lambs J.ss 4d (all counted), aged cross-bred ewes with good lambs 10s 9d (all counted). failing-mouthed half-bred ewes in lamb 24s to 27s 3d. aged lmlf-hred ewes in lamb 13s to 20s. sound-mouth-ed cross-bred ewes 28s Od.
pigs—Only a small entry of fat pigs came forward. The market opened at about late rates, but prices improved as the sale progressed, and it finished with a very keen demand.
