On resuming the match Walters and Mathias set up such a determined defence on an easy wicket that though Lowry tried eight bowlers they remained immovable and enabled a declaration to be made at 250 for the loss of only six wickets. Walters, who was 70. played a fine resolute innings. The New Zealand captain changed the order of going in with the result that six men wore skittled out by dagger and Bailees for GO. Dacro then fame in to assist James in making a. much needed stand. The Aucklander was in bis most aggressive mood, and the partnership put a better face on the innings, l>y adding 67 in half an hour. After the tea adjournment Deere went oil in his best style, and treated live Onlookers to a great display of hitting. He .sent tlio ball over the ropes five times, and also had three fours. Lowry when ho came in Hist appeared to be determined not to be outdone and also started to hit. but was quickly cut short by a' fine catch in long field. This ended the innings and the game was drawn. There was one interruption l>v rain.
