Bell and Bates putting on 73 for the first wicket, the New Zealand bowlers afterwards met with greater success, six wickets falling after lunch in 75 minutes for the addition of only 71 runs. Bell gave a bright display, hut was twice missed. Allcott and Page dropping easy catches. Allcott and Henderson both bowled well, keeping tile batsmen subdued.
'The New Zealander- h si Dacre, McGirr and Reman for only thirteen runs, hut Lowry and Mill took a firm hold and improved the outlook. Stumps were drawn shortly before 7 o’clock owing to had light.
