The burglar broke away after a scuffle and escaped leaving a jemmy behind. The jemmy was later found to fit marks on a safe on " an Auckland steam laundry premises in Belgium Street, which the burglar entered on the previous evening with trifling towards the safe resisting his efforts.

SENTENCES. AUCKLAND, September 5. At the Supreme Court Herbert Kilburu IS, and Gordon Walter Wright, IS, were found guilty of breaking and , entering a shop to steal provisions lor their camp. Kilburn had been pieviouslv convicted on a similar charge and was under Borstal treatment. Judge Stringer allowed him probation at the termination of the period. The other youth who apart from the present offence was given a good character, also admitted to probation, Judge Stringer expressing the opinion that short periods of Borstal are useless. John Henry Morgan. 23, for breaking entering theft and Forgery to six n,months imprisonment.

Thomas Turnbull and Robert Pryce for theft at Hamilton to three years preventative detention concurrent with similar sentences both are serving for offences in Dunedin. Frank Sadler for breaking entering and theft at Pukekohe to Borstal not exceeding three years.
