NEW ZEALAND TEAM AT HOME. MATCH AGAINST KENT. (Australian & N.Z. Cable Association.) (Received tiiis day at 9.?0 a.m.) LONDON, Sept. 2. Kent, beat New Zealand by 58 runs. Tiie attendance was only about 1000. Woolley’s end of Hie season gaiety provided the gem of the day, but ho did not progress much further, his innings being brought to a close at 125 by the wicket- keeper. Altogether he was in for two hours and twenty minutes and hit one sixer and ten fours. The County practically owed all their success to his two fine innings. Knott remained unbeaten with 39 to his credit when tho innings was declared at 8 for 203, leaving the tourists 370 to get. They made a very good attempt, 8 ol' the side all scoring nioro or less, but not quite enough. ;Thleiir opjpondntsi (regarded it ns a plucky fourth innings effort. The New Zealand team made a bad beginning. Mills being caught when the score was only one. Daero resorted to hurricane tactics and inspired Blunt to hurry up. the pair putting on -11 in 20 minutes. Tho Aucklander then fell a victim to a. dazzling piece of stumping, while Blunt was again bowled by Freeman. Dempster and Lowry became partners and playing a solid game took the total, by lunch time, to 3 for 122, at which stage the visitors were, not doing so badly. On resuming, however, there was a mild collapse, three more wickets falling for 30 runs. At (1 for 158 MeGirr joined James and both at first played a strictly defensivegame. When the latter left I.b.w. MeGirr. realising the end was near, changed to tho offensive, as he can, when well set and gave a clashing display of hitting, monopolised the bowling and rattling on eleven fours. With Allcott as a partner, the batting was of the briskest character, and by adding 01 imparted a much more respectable appearance to the score. After that. Allcott and Roman made an unexpected last wicket stand, but could not- save the .game, though the total reached 317.
