(l>v Telegraph—Per Press Association.) HAALILTON, Aug. 31. i Tiie New Zealand Golf Championships were opened here to-day in showery weather. Play on the opening day consisted of foursomes for amateurs and professionals. Hapi Tarelia and F. C. Fryer, of Napier, won the amateur competition with an aggregate- of i.'O for SG holes. Macßeth (Hamilton) and Morpeth (Auckland*, were runners-up with 160. In the professionals’ contest, A. .1. Shaw (Napier) and E. J. A loss (Auckland) won with an aggregate of 151, the runnersup being J. AlcTntosh (Alasterton) and It. C. Butters (Miramar) with 157.
