HOKITIKA BOWLING CLUB

The annual meeting was held in tho pavilion last evening, The Vice-Presi-dent (Mr J. B. AY aril) occupied tho chair and there wero 14 members present. The Chairman stated they all knew why it was necessary for him to take the chair. He would not say more but would ask members to stand in silence as a mark of respect to the deceased. Tho minutes of the last annual and committee meetings were read and confinned. NEW MEMBERS. The following new members were nominated and elected:—Messrs Garnet Perry, G. Coles, L. Gooch, Alan Stevenson, T. H. Coltman, Robt. Stuart and J. Conning. ANNUAL REPORT FOR THE YEAR ENDED AUGUST Kith, 19*27.

Gentlemen,—ln submitting the annual report for the year I regret having to record the death of two of our most prominent members. In December Mr G. IT. Blank passed away after n. lengthy Illness, and in May Mr H. A. Thompson. President, also crossed the Great Divide. Both deceased members took a very keen interest in all pertaining to the welfare of the Club and their deaths are very deeply deplored. Mr Blank was President for the year 1924-25. was singles’ champion in 1917-18, and was associated in the winning rink of the Coast championships on two occasions. Air Thompson was filling the presidential chair for the year. lie was singles' champion for the seasons 1923-21 and 1924-25 and also was a member of the winning rink at the annual tournaments on three occasions. Besides both members gave of their host for the advancement of the Club generally, and the occasion is taken to acknowledge our indebtedness to them, and our deep sense, of loss. We regret also the continued illness of Mr A. A. Andrewes, and wish him a. speedy recovery.

Financial.—The past year has proved a satisfactory one financially, and the net debt shmvs n reduction of £l2 -Is (id on the previous year, the cost of the new mower being included in the payments. The balance sheet shows that the reciptx for the year, including £l7 6s, the net proceeds of the hall, totalled I*lo9 Is. The expenditure amounted to .1*96 16s (id, thus enabling the overdraft to be reduced from .€73 9s 4d to €6l -Is lOd. Club Games.—The Singles’ Championship for tiie year was won by AH I) Stevenson, this making the seventh occasion on which ho lias been the holder, a unique performance that speaks for itself. Tho Rev. J. W. Hayward was runner-up. Messrs H. A. Thompson, W. Wilson, I). Stevenson and .Rev. J. W. Hayward represented the Club at the Nelson tournament at ’Xmas and were successful in winning the link championship. An enlarged photograph of the team has been presented by them and graces the wall of the pavilion. Tho annual tournament took place at Runanga green, with an overflow to the Grey mouth green. It proved very successful, tho Westport Club representatives winning both pairs and rinks. The champion of champion singles also played tho same week, was won by Westport. Air Harrison being successful 1 . In Club games we met Runanga on three occasions. winning each match, and tho Grey Club three times, winning once and losing twice. In the last game Grey secured the Reynolds Badges which they now hold ; which our club had won from Runanga earlier in the season.

The Green.—A new mower was secured last season and it proved an excellent machine. Afr Alex. Ivrakosky was appointed caretaker of the green and his work during tiie season gave every satisfaction. The green was in good order and members had a large amount of play. Appreciation.—-Tho thanks of the Club again arc due to tiie lady supporters for their valued assistance during tho year, tiie Club fully maintaining its reputation for hospitality thanks to their efforts. The annual hall took place on June 3rd, and was again a successful function. Outside Visitors.—A team of two rinks representing tiie Linwood Club, Christchurch, and later on tiie occasion of the Christchurch excursion a fourrink team paid enjoyable visits during the season.

A number of ladies took part in play during the earlier part of the season, hut interest dwindled among them as the season advanced and the innovation was not as successful as was hoped for. At the end of the season the green was top-dressed and it promises to ho in good order for the coming season. The balance sheet was also read. Mr J. King moved that the report and balance sheet be received and adopted.—Seconded by Mr KnowlcsSmith and carried. ELECTION OF OFFICERS. The following officers were elected for the ensuing season: President—Mr J. B. Ward. Vice-President—Mr James King. Secretary and Treasurer—Mr A. T 5. Benjamin. Auditor—Mr J. H. Wilson. General Committee—Messrs Stevenson, P.raddon, Bruce, Bakin, Breeze. J. Wilson, Knowles-Smitb. Cooke and C. ,T. King. Centre Delegate—Mr A. E. Benjamin. Selection Committee—Messrs Hayward, Howard and Stevenson. Ground Committee—Messrs Stevenson, Braddon and Knowles-Smitb. The subscription was fixed the same as previous years, at £2 12s 6d with a reduction of 103 dd if paid before November 30th. Hearty votes of thanks for services rendered were passed to lady supporters, to the Secretary and Auditor. A special vote of appreciation was passed to the green-keeper (Mr A. Krnkowsky) for his work during last season. On the motion of Messrs Benjamin anl Knowlos-Smith it was resolved that lady supporters have the free use of the green for play, in appreciation of their support and assistance so freely given.

It was resolved that the opening day bo fixed for Saturday, October Bth. A number of other matters affecting the welfare of the Club were discussed and dealt with, and the meeting terminated at- 8.30 p.m. with a vote of thanks to the Chairman for presiding.
