THOUGHTS FOR THE TIMES

Enuc.vnoNAii PnounKsa. Education is a restless and progressive science. If not precisely in a chronic state of flux, it is certainly never permitted to stand still. It presents an irresistibly attractive experimental field for the experts, and it has necessarily, to ho kept abreast of the times. That portentous and somewhat tyrannical creation, tho primary school syllabus lias undergone many alterations and oven at present is the subject of tho concentrated attention of a revising authority. Tho elders among us may marvel sometimes at the changes that have come over the schools since they carried their satchels and shining morning faces to the playground. And sometimes wo hear grave doubts expressed as to whether with all tho talk of ideals and the search for improvement, there survives that regard for thoroughness in ini-' parting the essentials of education which was ono of the articles of faith of a former generation. Educational dianges and innovations were certainly never more frequent than in tho present era, and the young people of today rail no doubt count themselves fortunate in very many respects in tho care and thought that are devoted to their school training. —Otago Daily Times.
