Ten thousand enthusiastically witnessed the Achilles ( lull, the iirst English athletic team to go Lo Germany since the war, defeat Deutsche Sports Club pud Berliner Sports Club in a. triangular match, 1 lie respective points scored wore TO. til?, and (JO. the visitors winning two of three prizes. The Englishmen lost the sprint and won a sequence of races, hut were beaten In field events. Wiglitmaii Smith won the 100 metres, with Lord Burleigh second, lone the 100 metres, and Stni’lard the 800 metres.

Tn 11 10 Marathon race, 25 of the -10 original entrants started. Bruton, the Mew Zealander, was a non-starter. The race Tor the first time carried with it the Australian championship. The weather was fine and the course was in good order. Gainsford and Hayden. Mew South Wales, were- most prominent up to len miles where Gainsford struck leg trouble and drooped out. Hayden carried on with Bateman and McMmain next. At ‘213 miles Hayden had a lead of over five minutes, and looked an easy winner, hut tired and at 25 mile;. Ids lend v. os reduced to under a minute. McMurdo. going strong, von by five hundred, yards. The course was 20 miles 1385 yards.
The placed men were: McMurdo (Queensland). time 0 hours (3 mins 2.3 sees; Hayden (New Houth Wales) 3 hours !) mins 3(3 aces; Bateman ((Slew South Wales).
