Tn 11 10 Marathon race, 25 of the -10 original entrants started. Bruton, the Mew Zealander, was a non-starter. The race Tor the first time carried with it the Australian championship. The weather was fine and the course was in good order. Gainsford and Hayden. Mew South Wales, were- most prominent up to len miles where Gainsford struck leg trouble and drooped out. Hayden carried on with Bateman and McMmain next. At ‘213 miles Hayden had a lead of over five minutes, and looked an easy winner, hut tired and at 25 mile;. Ids lend v. os reduced to under a minute. McMurdo. going strong, von by five hundred, yards. The course was 20 miles 1385 yards.
