THOUGHTS FOR THE TIMES
Politic,u. Developments. The new party still waits to .proclaim its programme, but it would appear to differ from earlier political movements, in aiming at fusion more than a new division. It desires to be called the United Xew Zealand party, and its aim apparently would bo to combine t-he present Reform and Xat ion a 1 parties. relegating the had leaders of Reform t-o a subordinate place. The two-party system would thus ho restored, to t-lio disadvantage of political Labour. The fusion of Reform and Liberalism, wlvic-h was discussed two years ago, would be fulfilled under other auspices. It is a large dream. Reform members of Parliament in Wellington profess to know nothing of the Auckland movement, and electors generally will not be too much impressed till they know more of it. —Dunedin Star.
