Thomas lleurv Gardner and Thomas Gardner Gordon, who shot a bullock of Fred Nielioll, of Rangatau. skinned and divided the meat, were lined £7> each and ordered to nay costs £1 12s fid. A lump of coal tailing from a basket while the AYiiiteinata was being unloaded at Lyttelton on July 29th, 1920, struck a labourer, Ellis Barrnelougli. It injured bis back and fractured a rib and lie has been unable to do any work since. The Union Steamship Company, owner of -the vessel, paid him compensation up to March litli last, hut has refused to pay any more.
Before the Aribtrntion Court to-day Barraci’.mgh claimed further compensation. The Judge said neurasthenia was a real disease, but was a mental, not a physical one. Barrnelougli suffered pain at the. time of the accident. He had no actual pain now, but his nerves continued causin'; telegraphic messages from the body to the brain. Ihe .Judge advised him to get out of his mind that lie had any physical trouble. The Court awarded £122 compensation as for wages in 4.V months.
