ATTACK ON NANKING. SHANGHAI, Aug. 21
The Northerners have started to cross the Ynngtsze and the taking ot Nanking is expected at any moment. .Marshall Sun C'lman Fang’s army of 80.000. including a Russian armoured train division is almost totally eonccntiated at Pukow, lacing Nanking whence the Russians daily are hoinharding Nanking without reply. Nanking railway station is the daily target for Pukow artillery, the purpose being to cripple the Southerner’s means of retreat by railway to Shanghai. Five train loads of Southerners arrived at Shanghai from Nanking and were transferred to Hangchow in expectation of a coup d’etat against the Southerners there. It is believed the Nanking Government agreed to hand over the defence of Nanking to Hankow forces, which recently arrived in large numbers and will' themselves retire on bloc to Hankow.
