(Australian & N.Z. Cable Association.) AUSTRALIAN LOANS. NEW YORK, Aug. 23. J. P. Morgan and Company, associated with the National City Company and a syndicate of New York hankers, has underwritten the Commonwealth a. forty million dollar loan of five per cent. 30-yr. bonds, dated Sept. Ist. redeemable at option, the whole or in -part, or after Ist. Sept. 19-17 and prior to Ist. Sept. 1952 at 102 per cent, on or after Ist. Sept. 1952 at par with accrued interest. Subscriptions open on Aug. 24th. and are expected to be immediately over subscribed and the -books closed.
MINERAL CONGRESS. NEW YORK, Aug. 23. At Montreal, King Andrews. Herman and other Australian delegates, addressed the mining MotallurglieaJ Congress on Australian mineral resources and methods of recovering and treating products, power generation, Briquette -making experiments with pulverized coal, and carbonizing. Australia’s position was mentioned during the discussion, and a resolution was proposed to institute a review of mineral resources and industries in each unit of the Empire. The speakers emphasised the necessity for preparedness in the case of another disastrous war and the ability to provide all metallurgical necessities from within the Empire.
