AUSTRALIAN NEWS.
(By Telegraph—Per Press Association.) A CLAIM. UPHELD. SYDNEY, Aug. 24. In an action wherein the Australian Provincial Assurance Association Ltd., proceeded against Percy Reginald Higgins, a barrister, formerly director of the Association to recover £245 sterling, balance of moneys alleged to have been advanced to cover expenses and three guineas per clay on a trip to New Zealand which were in excess of the amount agreed to he spent, a verdict evas returned for plaintiff for £l-11 sterling. Defendant pleaded lie was never indebted and stated it was agreed by the hoard of directors to recompense him for the loss of practice during his absence from the State.

QUEENSLAND STRIKE TROUBLE. BRISBANE. Aug. 24. There was an important development of the South Johnstone strike, when a boycott, of the mill by raihvaynven was put into force. The railway commissioner suspended three men who refused to handle goods which had been declared black.
