NEW ZEALAND TEAM AT HOME. AGAINST CUMBERLAND. AN EASY WIN. (Australian Press Association & Sun.) (Received this day at 9.30 a.m.) LONDON. Aug. 23. The New Zealand had an easy win over Cumberland which does not take very high rank among second class Counties. On resuming to-day both Blunt and Dempster were quickly dispatched by Walmsley. The former fell to a smart catch in the slips at 71 and Dempster soon followed after sending one hall over the ropes, IValmsley met with further success begetting rid of Merritt and Cunningham, but Bernini and James offered a stubborn resistance. The former hit very attractively and one fine straight drive was pitched over the boundary. Lowry who went in late also helped the score along and when all were out at the tea adjournment, the total had reached 302.

With the exception of Walmsley the County players failed badly in their second attempt against Blunt and Merritt. They appeared helpless in the face of the slow bowling and Merritt with 5 for -19 achieved the fine record in the match of 10 for 1 0. Though the sixtli wicket partnership put on 5(5, the game was finished off rather suddenly by 0.21) and New Zealand won by an innings and 18 runs. NEW ZEALAND.—Ist Innings.
