Rain interfered considerably with most of the county cricket matches. Results were:— -Middlesex, in their first innings against Essex, made 117 for six wickets (Ilondron, not out 83). This is not counted in the championship.

Hampshire, first innings. 110. AVliite took tive wickets for 37. Second innings MS. AA'hite took five wickets for 35. Somersetshire, first 'innings, 104. Kennedy took six for 37, and Newman four for 01. Second innings, 155 for one wicket (Young, not out 00). Somersetshire won by nine wickets. Notts, first innings, 420 (AA'hysali 110, Gunn 51, Larwood 01, Barra tt 57). M 'Donald took live wickets for lIP. Lancashire, first innings, 148 (Watson 00). S. Staples took six wickets for 33. Second innings, 70 for two wickets. Notts won on the first innings. For Warwickshire against Sussex, Kii’ner made 120, and Parsons 141. The match was drawn. LONDON, Aug. 10.

The Notts-Lauenshire match had ar. important bearing on the championship. If Notts had won outright it would have been almost level with Lancashire for first place. Lancashire was determined to prevent the match finishing and stonewalled. Hallows scored seven in 125 minutes. Rain fell at three o’clock in the afternoon and there was no further play.
