The semi-final between Roberts (champion) and Shanks (Wellington) in tho New Zealand Amateur Billiards championship, provided the best game in the event. Up to ,360. Roberts gradually led, but when Roberts with 61 made the score 459-351 in his favour. Shanks made a wonderful rally with breaks o! 56 and 53, the latter being a line all round effort, and included some brilliant red losing hazards from the middle, and took the lead for a. time. When Roberts turned 600 with Shanks close behind, Roberts then showed a return to form and ran out with a 69 break unfinished. The final score was: Roberts 666; Shanks 603. Breaks: Roberts 42. 38. 22 44,. 22, 23, 29, 63, 33, 25 and 60; Shanks 38. 48, 40, 52, 30, 50 and 83. Average 5.2. The final between Roberts and Freeman (Wellington) commences to-mer-row uijjfht.
