Goebel, escorted by four planes, made a perfect landing before the grandstand.
As he stepped from his plane he said: “Oh boy! We did it.” Then guns saluted and whistles shrieked, and a crowd estimated at 150,000, roared a welcome. Jensen, who was Honolulu’s favourite. flew in 23 hours 17 minutes. He made a poor landing, and then jumped out of his plane to toll' his wife, who collapsed in his arms, “Sorry, I kept you waiting,’* FLAXES STILL MISSING. XEW A’ROK, Aug. 17. Three hours after Jensen landed. Frost’s Golden Eagle and the machine carrying Pedlar and Aliss Doran, the only woman who has yet attempted a trniis-oceanic flight, had not been heard from, and is causing considerable concern. HONOLULU, Aug. 13. Admiral McDonald last night ordered the destroyers and submarines stationed at Hawaii to search in net formation for the two Dole planes not yet arrived. It is feared that they were forced down when their fuel was exhausted.
STILL AHSSIXO. (Received this day at 9..20 a.m.) SAX FRAXCTSCO. Aug. IS. All the resources of the United States Xavy have been thrown into an extensive search to-day for the missing planes Golden Eagle and Aliss Doran with a woman and four men. Xo report has been received from any at noon. Forty-two destroyers and merchant ships with aircraft steamed out. One ship carried twenty-eight land planes and another carried seaplanes. All will take off at frequent intervals and endeavour to locate the lost Dole racer. .Meantime twentythree submarine • tenders formed a scouting line at right angles to the tho flight, hoping to find traces. Additional submarines are following the direct line of the flight and two others are proceeding to search later.
