Now Zealand A mat out Billiards I Championship, proved to bo a keen contest, despite the disparity of tho scores all through. The balls ran badly for Haekett. and particularly badly at. the finish, when a kiss would «i>oif tiie run or the balls would lino up, or be would lose tho white. Although there were occasionally weak shots, both played well, and luck went Shank’s way, especially in one break of 61, which contained two consecutive flukes at 40. Up to about 450 Shank’s average was 10, hut he slowed up considerably. and finished up a little over 8. "Ho made one nice break of 73, including nursery cannons and rod hall play, Hackott’s best work being nt the top of the table. The final scores were: Shanks 606, Haekett 627. Breaks: Shanks—2s, 26, 23, 28, 73, 25, 61. 24 , 24, 35; Haekett—2l, 28, 29. 36, 27.

SEMI-FINAL MATCH. WELLINGTON, Aug. 17. The first semi-final in the New Zealand Amateur Billiards Championship whs played to-night when A. Freeman (Welington) beat N. N. Tucker (Wellington) by 666 to 518. The balls ran very well for Freeman. The wifther’s average was 6.3.
