AN EASY WIN
(Australian & N.Z. Cable Association,
(Received this day at 0.30 a.m.) LONDON. Aug. 15.
The match with Derbyshire, which up to the middle of the season held a high place in the County Championships. resulted in an easy win for New Zealand by an innings and 210 runs. The visitors put up the highest score in a first class match and even then the innings was not played out. Dowry declaring at 0 for dll. Critics highly commend their brilliant hatting in this
On resuming Mills and Dowry gave a lot of trouble, the fatted scoring PI in 100 minutes, with nine boundary strokes. The Aucklander, however, was much slower as lie was at thi' wickets four hours and a quarter before lie reached the century. After Dowry left Allcott hit with great freedom, taking over an hour to get 02. which included one six and seven fours. Hutchinson was the most successful of the County howlers, obtaining three of the last wickets rather cheaply, hut Worthington, who has done some good bowling in County matches, was very expensive.
The New Zealanders followed up their fine hatting effort hv again dismissing their opponents for a small total, for which Merritt and llftint principally were responsible. Requiring 'ID2 to avert an innings defeat. Derbyshire started badly, Rernau dismissing both Storer and Dee at 1/. At flic tea adjournment the total was 2 for -Id. Worthington and Ford made n short stand. Then Hutchison made a forlorn attempt to save the game. He batted with determination and reached dO in 80 minutes. After he tell to a catch by Daere, Blunt rattled out three men for only five runs and the whole innings only lasted 21 hours. The attendance was about a thousand. Scores: — DERBYSHIRE First Innings.
