XEW ZEALAXI) VICTORIOUS. SVDXKV, Auy. Id. The Xew Zealand hockey team played their first match in Sydney, in fine bright weather. There were three thousand people present. displaying great enthusiasm. Xew Zealand won the toss, and played against a sliylit breeze with the sun at their hacks. The players took a little time to settle down, hilt the Xew Zealanders’ hittiny was on the erratic side. Xew South Wales, combining ■veil, kept the Xew Zealanders on the defensive. Xettleton and Abel yave an excellent exhibition. Xettleton drew lirst blood, nettiny cleverly. I lien. a. tew minutes before half time. Walts scored twice in quick succession and the end of the spell saw the hoard readiny 2 points to 1 in favour of Xew Zealand. In the second spell, play on both sides improved considerably. Xettle. ton at mi early staye secured a you! for Xew South Wales. Then Hdson and Secern ll he scored, putting Xew Zealand two points ahead. In the last ten minutes plat was very exciting. Xew South Wales launching attack after attack, only 'to find New Zealand's defence unbreakable, and the game ended: Xew Zealand 4. Xew South Wales 2. XKW.MAX SHI FI.H MATCH. In a Xew man Shield match on Saiurdav Inangahua defeated a West Coast team at Roefton by 2 goals to nil. after a good game.
