WESTLAND COMPETTIONS
COMMENCING FHIDAY EVENING
Owing to Hie increase in the entries it has been found impossible to complete the competitions in the time stipulated originally and it will he necessary now to start tile Competitions at 8 o’clock sharp next Friday night. The following are the entries received: Elocution ..; 182 Music 102 v Dancing 24 Total 303 As last year’s entries totalled 188. it will Ihe. seen there is a very substantial increase. For the opening night a very attractive lirogrnmme of music, elocution and dancing will he presented, including the choral items, anthem and unacompanied hymn. The programme will start at 8 o’clock, and is timed to run to 10.45. On Saturday there will three sessions, forenoon, afternoon and evening, on Monday a further three sessions, and on Tuesday, morning and afternoon sessions, winding u]i with a grand demonstration concert of the prize winners at tin* Princess Theatre in the evening. There will thus he ten distinct programmes in all. so that holders of season tickets will have extraordinary value for their subscription. Arrangements have been made with the Boomerang Afouth Organ Coy to hold a contest at the local Competitions and they are offering musical prizes, also a West Coast championship certificate. The only conditions are that the player must use a Boomerang mouth organ. The prizes are one guinea, and a gold medal, first, and half a guinea and silver medal, second. Six entries are required or no first prize, ten entries, or no second prize. Entrance is free and close with Mr Yarrall. at the Music Depot, Revel! Street on Friday.
In consequence of the Competitions occupying the Soldiers’ Hall next Friday night, the weekly euchre tournament will be held the previous ct cuing, Thursday next, at 8 p.nt.
