AMUSEMENTS.
EVERYBODYS’ PICTURES BEAUTY CONTEST FINALISTS. There was a large attendance at the Princess Theatre last night to witness the appearance of the ton finalists for the selection of .Miss New /eland 1927 to proceed to the U.S.A. for the initiation of a picture screen career. Moving picture scenes were shown first depicting the young ladies in short feature playlets, ah' of which were of varied interest. Later the young ladies appeared in person on the stage, first singly and then in groups. All had a very cordial reception. The f rocking was a feature of the parade, and was greatly admired. The ten young ladies representing Miss Auckland, .Miss Wellington. Miss Canterbury. .Miss Otago and .Miss Southland, with their Maids of Honor, till did well, and the audience was very appreciative. It was a novel and engrossing appearance and the audience was greatly interested. In conjunction with the finalists, a lengthy picture, “ The Pony Express ” was screened, a well told tale of the ’sixties in the United States when Lincoln came into power, illustrating the settlement of the west and the means employed to get mail matter through. The picture was followed with close interest all through. Altogether the programme was a very enjoyable one.
TO-NIGHT. This evening the Finalists will appear in the following screen and stage playettes:—“Billie Gets Fired,” “ Pat is Jilted,” “ Vera in a Beauty Salon.” “ Hazel at the Pictures,” “ llildred Goes Fishing.” “ Dale Inebriated,” “ Leon at Rieearton.” The supporting picture this evening will be “ Paint and Powder,” starring Elaine Haininerstein and a good cast. It is a Master picture and is the greatest story of the stage ever produced. HOKITIKA VOTING. MISS N.Z. 1927. First.—Miss Leon McCall (Miss Canterbury). Second.—Miss Dale Austen (Miss Otago). Seventh.—Miss Jane Kinsey (Maid of Honour, Canterbury!. *Miss Hildred Graham (M.aid of Honour Auckland). “Miss Winnie Tonkinson (Miss Southland). *Miss Margie Cameron (Maid oT Honour Southland).
