MOTOR CYCLISTS TOUR
ARRIVAL IN CHRISTCHURCH
Another stage of the world tour of two young English motor-cyclists, Messrs B. H. Cathrick and J. P. Castley, wa.s completed on Sunday nfterimoii. when they arrived in Christchurch alter riding in the one day from Blenheim. They were met at Saltwater Creek by a number of members of the Pioneer Sports Club and on tlie way to the city more cyclists joined in the procession, which totalled about two hundred machines by the time Cathedral Square was reached.
For nearly a year these riders bare been on the road, having crossed Europe, Asia and Australia. They will spend about six weeks in New Zealand, ami will then cross South America and South Africa before reaching England. By that time they will have covered 3-I, COO miles by road, equivalent to having rounded the world at its widest point—the Equator. Including sea travel, their journey will have been one of .'FLOOD miles.
Mr Cathrick, although just twentysix years of age, has had a wide experience. having, been engaged at different periods in the Malay States. South Africa and England. He is the official representative of the B.S.A. Company on the tour. The other member of the party, Mr Castley. is a journalist, who at the present time occupies the position of .sub-editor of “The Motor Cycle” the official organ of the motor-cyclists’ organisations of Great Britain. The tourists are covering the South Island first, and after travelling to Bluff, will return to the North Island. The small portion of the Dominion that they have already seen has impressed them -favourably.
