On arrival at Capetown to-day, Hon. Ah- Amcry. .Secretary of State lor the Dominions, wan presented with a ti\ie address of wel'conie. which made a strong point of acknowledging South Africa's debt for the protection ot the British Navy.

Replying, Ml- Amcry said the purpose of his South African visit was the maintenance of personal contact Et’* tweeii the (ioveniinciits ol the Dominions. which experience had shown would he of indispensihle understanding and sympathy. lie said: “We are all essential elements in our tree and equal

Interviewed. -Mr Amcry emphasised in a tribute, the quality and freedom of all the partners in the British Commonwealth. and declared the Imperial Conference had cleared away any misunderstanding which might have prevented future co-operation and unity. He acknowledged the help given Creat Britain by the preferences, and spoke hopefully of the future work of the Empire .Marketing Board. Mr Amcry left for Pretoria, where he will hi- the guest of the Premier, lie will make a six weeks tour of the T'nion and the Rhodesia.
