WESTLAND SUB-UNION. COMM ITTEE MEETING. The Committee met last evening at 8 o’clock. Present : Messrs F. McGregor i.diair), J. Stafford, A. Cutbush, R. McDonald. An apology was made for the absence of .Messrs Dowell and Moore. The Ashburton Union notified the visiting team would arrive in Hokitika on Monday next and play the following Wednesday afternoon. The Secretary was requested to make all necessary arrangements. The following nominations were received for the seven-aside tournament to be held at Ross next Saturday afternoon for the MeMullan Cup:—Excelsior A, B, C, and D teams; Rimu and Ross, A and B teams each. The Goi’den Bay Union wrote stating ibe question of a match would be considered when arranging the itinerary. The .match in the under 8-stone competition fixed for Saturday next was Rimu v. Convent at 10.30 . SEVEN-ASIDE .TUN I OR.
The competition will take place at Ross, all junior tennis comepting. Mr Cutbush was appointed to control the tournament. Play to start at 1 p.m.
School A v. School B match will take place on Wednesday at 3..10.
At Greymouth on Saturday next Ashburton v. West Coast.
The West Coast Rugby Union suggested a on August I.lth. The knock-out competition for the Breeze Shield is to start on August 20th. Entries: Excelsior A and B, Rimu and Kokatahi. There was a discussion about representative matches and delegates to Saturday’s conference wore instructed to press for more equitable treatment in the future.
It was suggested the Hockey Club holding a carnival’ hall on the 17th inst would entertain the Ashburton visitors on that evening.
The Secretary was instructed to arrange for the billeting of the visiting Ashburton team.
The following Coast team will play Ashburton on next. Saturday, at Victoria Park:—Goodall, M. Jamieson. Houston, King, H. Jamieson, Warnes, Gibons, Hahn, Bell, Devaney. Freitas. Coulton, Dougherty Fell and Fleming. Emergencies: (not in order) —Backs: Whilev and Reynolds. Forwards: Wilson and Dow.
The following is the West-land team selected to play Ashburton on Aug. 17th. at Hokitika:— Nightingale, Whilev, Tainui, Pfahlert, Houston, King, McCleary (capt), Hahn. Devaney Meynihan, Bannister, Freitas, McTn•tosli, Dougherty and A. King. Emergencies: Forwards—Fleming and Montagu ; hacks—Kinlooh and Christensen.
SYDNEY LEAGUE FOR X.Z. AUCKLAND, Aug. 8
The Auckland Rugby League lias received advice from the New South Wales’ League that Saint George’s Club has accepted an invitation to visit the Dominion, and an entire team is available. It is expected that the team will play three matches in Auckland. SYDNEY. Aug. 9. At a meeting of the New South Wales Rugby League a letter was received from Queensland League suggesting the Board of Control should arrange a tour of Australia by a New Zealand team. The Queensland League stated in the event of the two States not being able collectively to arrange the tour, the northern body would undertake to bring the Dominion team to Brisbane. The New South Wales management committee recommended such a tour could not be arranged by this State. This was agreed to.
