LAST STAGES OK QUEST. FINALISTS IN HOKITIKA. During the past few months a quest has been conducted in the five centres of New Zealand—Auckland. Wellington, Christchurch. Dunedin and Invercargill— to find a suitable girl to represent the Dominion in Hollywood as a film star. The contest has been run by well known entertainment linns. Many hundreds of beautiful girls entered the contest, and the voting of the public in each centre has selected two of their number to represent their province as provincial (inalists. These girls—Aliss Auckland, Miss Wellington, Miss Canterbury. Miss Otago. Miss Southland, and their Maids of Honour, now enter into the final stages of the contest, when one of their number is to be selected as Miss New Zealand, 1927. This lucky young lady then proceeds, with a chaperone, to Hollywood, where the .Melro-Goldwyn-. -Mayer Studios of Culver City have contracted to give her a part in the male- j ing ot a picture at a salary of C'2o . per week. All Ihe expenses of herself and chaperone in America and hack arc provided, and she is ali'oved wardrobe expenses ami pocket money. The ten finalists are now touring the cities and main towns of the Dominion. ' where the voting of the picture theatre j audiences is deciding which of their j number is to he Miss New Zealand. 11,27. And Hokitika is to have Die chance of seeing ten of the Dominion's fairest daughters, and of assisting in the .selection of the winner. The. Icn finalists arrive in Hokitika on tour on Wednesday next, and will he appearing at the Princess Theatre lor two nights, when all patrons will he supplied with a voting coupon, and will he asked to record a vote for the girl they think most suitable for the Dominion’s representative. Ihe box plans opened at Mclntosh’s this morning. A splendid display of enlargements of the finalists is now on view at Varrail’s.
