Tbe Council sat at 7.35 p.m. Present : Dr Teieltelmann (Vice-President), Messrs W. Brnddon, R. Paterson, R. Appleton, It. Hells, C'. Beretfilt, it. Stuart, AY. Peck and D. J. Evans. Apologies were made for the absence of Alcssrs G. A. Perry (President), Garnet Perry, 11. Wells and J. J. McIntosh.
The minutes of tiie previous meeting were confirmed and tbe outward correspondence approved. IXWARD COItRESONDEXCE.
From Tourist and Health Office, Wellington, stating matters regarding Ha ast Pass track and but bad been referred to Public AYorks Department, and attention would be pressed for. Received. Tbe Secretary reported a favourable interview with the officer in charge at Wellington.
From Department of Internal Affairs notifying brokers licenses respecting opossums had been issued to Alessrs Houston, Jeffries, and Johnson. Deceived.
From District Land Registrar notification regarding titles for reserves o2 and 53 ATahinapnn Survey District.— Received.
From Postal Department notifying accrued revenue for deer stalking licenses for past season.— 'Received with thanks.
From Director of Forestry. AVellington. stating tbe Forest Service was supporting request for liberation of opossums in South Westland. Received. 'Hie Secretary reported the -Member for Westland had been asked to move in the matter.
From Otago Acclimatisation Society notifying arrangements for deer culling and next stalking season, and suggesting April for the latter.—Deceived. It was pointed out April would make the season too late in the high eountty of AVcstlnnd and Alarclt would have to he retained. From North fnnlerliury Society regarding culling fees in the Dakaia flistrint.—Deceived with thanks. From South Canterbury Society on same subject, stating no herds in district. —Deceived with thanks. It was resolved to give an increase of sixpence per head for South AVcstlnnd culling in tbe coming season.
From Otago Society offering to suplily 10.009 brown trout: free at tbe Pembroke hatchery for liberation in the upper Haast River.—Deceived and acpeted with thanks.
From Eric James. Alaknrora, stating cost of transport for brown trout would |, 0 about £2 10s.—Deceived and offer accepted. From Grey District Society acknowledging payment of ranger’s lees ; also enquiring as to cost lot* butchery upkeep and asking for receipted amounts. Received ; particulars to be supplied of expenditure to date and claim made for half cost.
From Westland County Council thanking Society for offer of £75 towards Dorothy Falls track work.—Deceived. It was reported the proposed road was to bo inspected the billowing day with a view to affording employment ior mill bands thrown out of work. From Westland Progress League with regard to advertising scheme estimated to cost £ls per month, and asking for financial support.— Received and a vote of £ls agreed to. From W. Jeffries and Coy. notifying purchase of 709 opossum skins from different sellers.—Received. From E. James. Alaktirora. supporting Society’s efforts to have opossums liebrated in tbe south, and suggesting stocking of Haast river and tributaries with brown trout fry.—Received. It was resolved to advise Air .Tames as to care in tbe temperature of the wateiwhen liberating tbe fry. Accounts to tbe amount of £3l 0s lOd were passed for payment. Air Brnddon stated arrangements were advanced in readiness for hatching operations as soon as the fry was to hand. Air Ridland would be in charge. The meeting concluded at 8.20 p.m.
