TWO CHINESE DEPORTED.
AFCKLAND, Aug. 4. Two Chinese, I.oong Yuk Joe, and Chung Joe. were ordered to he deported in the Police Court this morning. They pleaded guilty when charged with remaining in New Zealand beyond the period for which their temporary permits entitled them. The Collector of Customs stated that Leong Yuk Joe’s permit expired in .March. 1926, and Cliing Joe’s in Ootfiber last year. He said many other Chinese were also giving much trouble in this way. and it bad been suggested that terms of imprisonment should be imposed, in addition to deportation. Great difficulty was experienced b,v the police in tracing the Chinese who overstayed their permits, said Constable Duel. At present twenty Chinese were being looked for. He said that Wong Doo. a local Chinese resident. had purchased tickets for both of these men. who would leave for Australia t o-m orrow. Mr Hunt. S.M. fined Leong Yuk Joe ■CIO, or one month's imprisonment, and C’imn" .Joe £o. or one month in "oal. Tn addition both are to be deported from the Dominion.
