The annual meeting of the shareholders of the Australian Provincial Assurance Association, in view of tlio recent trouble, was largely attended. 1 lie meeting adopted the report and balance sheet. The report of an independent actuarial investigations showed the Company’s actuarial reserve to he quite adequate for the liability of the amount assured, and recommended that the valuation basis be altered to a net |iremium basis, by transferring £150.000 of tlie special reserve to the actual reserve, together with £IO,OOO out of the jtresent year’s profits. The Chairman stated in spite of the circulars which were broadcasted throughout Australia and Xew Zealand. 31.879 votes had been received in favour of the Board, and 14.1450 votes in favour of tlie Defence Committee. The latter in view of the Purge vote in favour of the Board now have every confidence and all dissension will now cease. SYDXEY. Aug. 5. Soccer was played for the first time in Sydney under electric light. China defeated the Metropolitan team by G goals to 1.
