CONFERENCE HELD AT WELLINGTON.

WELLINGTON. Aug. 2

A conference of those interested in the revival of the New Zealand Liberal Party, called bv .Mr \Y. A. Vcitcli. M.P. for Wanganui, took place to-day. There was an attendance of about 20. The proceedings were not open to the newspapers, hut when the adjournment was taken at 1 o’clock this afternoon after a sitting of two hours, Mr Veitch. who was elected to the chair, made a brief statement. " The conference,” said Mr Veitch, "is a thoroughly representative one and I am highly pleased at the response made to my invitations to he present. There is a great deal of business to be done and ah' I can savi at present is that the conference is proceeding along very satisfactory lines.” The conference met again at 3.30 p.m.. and it was doubtful whether it' would he possible to put through all the business to-day. It is understood that Mr Veitch is the only member of Parliament present at the conference. Those present include Mr S. G. Smith. ex-M.P. for Taranaki, and Mr A. 11. Sievwright, who contested the Wellington South seat in the interests of the Xationa-j list Party at the last General Election.' The principal business of the conference. it is stated, will he the drawing up of a constitution, and it is understood that a special committee was set up this morning to go into the question. j
