OLD TIME DANCE

A very enthusiastic meeting was held last evening to discuss arrangements lor the holding of an Old Tinio Dance. -Mr K. Lynn was appointed Chairman and in a lew words explained that the meeting was convened for the purpose o! reviving the old-time method of dancing and incidentally to raise funds lor any worthy object which the meeting may decide. It was unanimously decided to hold the dance on the 24th August (Wednesday) in the Soldiers’ Mall, and to donate the surplus funds to the Hokitika Beautifying Society. A strong committee was then formed, consisting of the following:—Chairman, It. Lynn ; Secretary, J. Conning, Committee, Messrs A. Lawn, A. E. Benjamin. «T. Stuart. H. S\v cney, A. j I’arkhill, o. .T. King. 1?. Paterson. A. It owe. W . Keesing, and A. Armstrong. M. ,s('.. Messrs .7, Coui'son, C. Bleach, and J. .]. Breeze. It was left to the Chairman to call : a meeting of ladies at an early date | and several names were mentioned ol j those who were keenly interested in assisting to revive the good old dances. H was decided to charge an admission fee of half a crown, for both ladies and gentlemen. The Secretary and Chairman were instructed to arrange an orchestra of four instruments. As it was the old custom to commence dancing at 8 p.m. it was resolved that the dance commence promptly at that hour. The Secretary was instructed to get the tickets printed at an early date. From the very encouraging reports received it would appear that the old-time dance premises to ho one ot the most popular functions of the year. Jazzing is to be strictly prohibited and the committee intend to allow no infringement of this rule. No effort will ho spared to give intending patrons a most enjoyable evening. A hearty vote of thanks to the chair terminated tlie meeting.
