Patrons attending the Poultry Show ® to-day will he surprised at the success of this useful event. The interest and enthusiasm of those responsible for the revival of the Show has been well j 11stihed from the point of entries. There has been a remarkably good response to the call j'or exhibits. And it is very pleasing to notice that the exhibits are by no means of poor quality. The standard is remarkably good, several classes in fact being outstanding. In the records of the former exhibitions hy the local Society, there were many fine birds presented, and the revival now shows that those records "ill he approached again. These are times when the utility bird is coming more into its own. the utility classes are not only well patronised, hut contain a very tine string of birds. Pigeons and oaiiaries are not as numerous as in former times when the recurring annual shows were an encouragement to the fanciers, but both classes are sure lo “conic’’ again, now that the annual exhibitions have been revived. Show's of tile nature now under consideration call for a good deal ,>f attention on the part of the fanciers and the committee, and the success of the presen effort will be an encouragement to continue the revival permanently. For next year, no doubt, one or more Xow Zealand championships "ill he .secured, and these special eoni|>otitions "ill attract more outside attention to the fixture. It is to be hoped that the farming community which of necessity a most- follow poultry rearing as an adjunct to their operations " ill take more interest in the utility section. Tt should he possible for the local Society to arrange an egg-laying competition, and in that event farmers and others might be fnd need to participate, and so by a process of selection improve their breeds of poultry uid secure better returns. Poultry •earing for profit carried on under rropor management can be made a suo •ess. There is the opening here to a a lie a financial’ success of such a Tenure, for in both birds and eggs the oca! demand exceeds the supply. Pollin' shows help to bring out the hotter irds and are a step towards improved esults for those engaged in poultry earing. All interested in the imlu.sry—for such it is growing into in New lealand—should make it a point of atronising the Show and learning .fl
there is to ho gleaned about poultry and its care.
