GRADUATES IN BUSINESS.
Time was when the University man did not seek a career in business. He bad only a vague idea of what business wanted, and a well-grounded fear Unit the business world would be incredulous of Ills ability to .supply it. How tar we have got away from that mutual ignorance is shown by recent references to the records ol the Appointments Boards ot both Oxford and Cambridge, which are instrumental in placing hundreds of graduates annually in the economic sphere. That liberally trained intelligence bad a function of its own in commercial life was a discovertin which we were anticipated by Germany and America, lint which we have not failed to utilise in our turn. And on the University side it lias not been a matter of waiving academic standards and ideals, but simply of keeping a closer watch upon practical life and the points where educated minds can do it the best service.-—“ The Observer.”
