(By Telegraph— Per Press Association.) PRINCE OF WALES CUP. GISBORNE, Aug. 2. The Poverty Bay Rugby Union adopted a scheme for a competition among Afaori bootball Clubs throughout tlie Dominion for a handsome trophy' presented by the Prince of Males. The trophy was presented by the Prince at the suggestion of the late ISir James Carroll and it was the wish of tlie latter that the first match for the cup should be played at his birthday celebrations at Whakakai. Ihe .Maoris desire this wish should lie carried out and that the competition should start at Whakakai on August ’2oth. and the Rugby Union believing the competition would foster Rugby amongst natives decided to approach the ATaori Advisory Board and the New Zealand Union on tlie matter.
