PR ISON ERS SENTEN(’ ED. AUCKLAND, August. 1
At the Supreme Court Newell Harry Williams, was found guilty of receiving a coat, knowing it had been stolen. The jury added a recommendation to mercy. Mr Peterson, assisting tlic Crown Prosecutor stressed the seriousness of pillaging oil the waterfront in recent months, the shipping companies having reported losses amounting to £4,000. Air Justice Stringer said the prisoner’s connection with the offences in question was suspicious. He must accept the finding of the jury though he didn’t understand on what grounds they made a recommendation to mercy. He sentenced accused to six months’ imprisonment. George Crompton Mansfield for theft was sentenced to eighteen months hard labour. Thomas MacFadden lor theft of £fi 10s from a drunken man to eighteen months’ hard. Ernest Leslie Klvv. 21. on charges of theft of money exceeding £IOO whilst in the. employ of the Railway De-1 pnrtment, to reformative treatment not exceeding eighteen months. DUNEDIN, August I. Prisoners were sentenced by Justice Sim as follows : Ralph Alexander Renton and Jas. Ronald Renton, breaking, entering and theft, to three years BorstaT. Ronald AY in. AYinton and Noel James Francis Campbell, breaking and entering, to two years’ probation. John Alexander Graham, theft of cows, to three years probation. . Leonard Harvey Jackson fraudulent statement and forgery, to two years’ probation. Gordon Brown, charged under the Bankruptcy Act. three months imprisonment.
