The annual ball of the Kanieri Football Club takes place on Wednesday evening in the Public Hall, Kanieri. Ross’ Orchestra will supply the music and there will be complete arrangements made by a strong ladies’ committee. In view of the success of the team in the senior championship the function should prove doubly attractive.
The newly appointed Matron to tb Roefton Hospital, Miss Frances Gibson, at present in charge of a maternity homi‘ at Hokitika, received six
years’ continuous training at the liuller’ and Dcmiistnn Hospitals, at the latter institution attended at over 000 maternity cases. She holds medical, surgical and midwifery certificates, and for three years was in charge at Dennistou.
Pl-eparat ions for the Poultry Show are now Icing advanced at the Soldiers’ Hall, where the show opens at i o’clock oil Wednesday a'flernoon. There is a very large entry ensuring the success of the Show. Many of the outside exhibits are arriving to-day. including entries from Nelson and Christchurch. During the progress of the Show there will he a gas cooking ilcnionstrat ion in the annexe. Alt Brown, Government Poultry Expert, will also he in attendance to give instruction and advice to those interested in keeping poultry for profit.

Then rents in every case will lie subject to the ordinary conditions of the property market.
Tlu* doatli occurred at the residence of his daughter. Mrs G. Simpson. Fox Street, Cohden. on. Saturday moniinjr, of Mr John Dimian, in his 95th. year. In ceased was a native of County Clare, Ireland, and had resided at C'ohden for -V) years. Prior to arriving at (.Viilon, he was engaged in milling for many years at Brighton (Charles, ton). On reaching Cohden, he worked for Messrs Hungerfold and McKay on ITotoctive work at Tiphead. He had been ailing for a lengthy period, and was hedridden for a month prior to his death. He was tlie oldest, member of the Forresters’ Lodge on the West Coast. His wife died 10 years’ ago, and he is survived by three daughters (Mrs (i. Simpson. Cohden; Mrs ,1. B. Stewart. Coal Creek; and Mrs H. It. Young. Petone); also two sons, (Patrick. Greymoutli and John. AVairoa).

The death occurred at the Grey River Hospital yesterday morning, of Airs .Mary Elizabeth Gulden, wife of Constable Gulden, of Altttura. The deceased lady was .‘l9 years of age.
