THE COUNCIL. WELLINGTON, July 30. The Legislative Council met at 2.30 p.m. Five days leave of absence was granted to Hon Witty on account of illness.

The Imprest Supply Bill No. 2. Canterbury College anti Canterbury Agricultural' College Bill, and Massey Agricultural College Bill, were receiveo from the House and put through alt' stages and passed. Samoan Amendment Bill. Animals Protection and Game Amendment Bill (Sir T. Mac-Kenzie) and Justices of the Peace Bill were put through the final stages and passed. Rent Restriction Bill was introduced from the House and after a debate on the second reading the Bill was rejected hv 15 to 1-t and the Council adjourned till Wednesday. THE HOUSE. The House mot at 2.30 p.m. Air Veitch introduced the Dairy Produce Export Control Amendment Bill, which, lie explained, was meant to abolish control and reduce the levy to a quarter of the present amount. The Bill was read a first time. At 7.30 p.m. the House considered the Juries’ Amendemnt- Bill No. 2 introduced by AD- H. G. R. Mason (Eden), the second reading of which was agreed to after an interesting debate and the Bill was referred to the Statutes Revision Committee. The House rose at 9.30 till 2.30 p.m. on Tuesday.
